Beaufort follows 22-year-old outpost commander Liraz Liberti and his troops during Israel's final months in Lebanon. Rather than a conventional war film, it's a story of retreat—soldiers stationed on a mountaintop facing an unseen enemy that strikes from above while they count down to withdrawal. With no clear antagonist, only the abstract threat of aerial bombardment, the film captures the psychological strain of young men tasked with holding their position until the last moment. Tension builds not from combat but from the grinding anxiety of waiting, the weight of command, and the question of survival when departure feels impossibly distant. Beaufort is a stark, intimate portrait of military duty stripped of heroism.
