The Swamp Wader(1966)

The Swamp Wader is a Latvian period drama set in the late 19th century. Edgars, a coachman at Alaine manor, is in love with Kristine, the washerwoman's daughter, but his volatile temperament makes him an unsuitable match in her mother's eyes. As Edgars struggles with his feelings, his fellow servants Viskrelis and Sutka encourage him toward a dissolute life, dangling the barmaid Matilde as temptation. Meanwhile, Kristine attracts the attention of Akmentins, a wealthy landowner with far better prospects. Caught between passion and circumstance, Edgars must confront the class divisions and personal failings that threaten to keep him and Kristine apart.
