Bonsoir is a French comedy about Alex Ponttin, a recently unemployed tailor grieving the loss of his wife, who devises an audacious scheme to survive: he infiltrates strangers' homes by posing as a relative or official, securing free meals and lodging through persuasion and charm. His nights take him through a series of misadventures—a robbery at the home of a bickering couple, a chaotic evening with Marie and her seven children, and a stay with the shy Caroline and her spirited lover Gloria. When Caroline faces losing her inheritance due to her family's disapproval of her sexuality, Alex agrees to pose as her lover to deceive her aunt. The bumbling police investigating his con artist activities prove too incompetent to catch him, allowing his peculiar odyssey through Parisian homes to continue unchecked.
