Avatar follows Michiko, a high school sophomore still grieving her father's death a decade earlier. When her mother gives her a cell phone for her birthday, Michiko enters a new world of connection—one she's not entirely prepared for. Taeko, the popular queen of her class, pressures Michiko into joining AvaQ, a social networking site that quickly becomes the center of her teenage life. As Michiko navigates the demands of online friendship and digital identity, she discovers that the virtual world mirrors and amplifies the real tensions of adolescence. The film explores how technology shapes young lives and the fragile balance between fitting in and staying true to yourself in an increasingly connected world.
