Mr. Sardonicus is a 1961 Gothic horror film set in 1880 Gorslava. Sir Robert Cargrave, a London physician specializing in paralysis treatment, is summoned by the mysterious Baron Sardonicus to cure a severe facial disfigurement. Cargrave arrives to discover the masked baron is a cruel sadist—and the man has married Cargrave's former wife, Maude. The baron threatens to harm her unless Cargrave succeeds in his treatment. Trapped in a decaying castle with a dangerous patient and a woman from his past, Cargrave must navigate the baron's cruelty and uncover the truth behind his grotesque condition. The film builds tension through psychological horror and moral dilemma as the doctor confronts both medical impossibility and human malice.
