The Rules of the Game(1975)
The Rules of the Game is an Italian comedy of manners adapted from Luigi Pirandello's sharp-witted play. Set among the upper classes, the film follows Silia Gala and her contemptuous husband Leone as their marriage faces upheaval when Silia's lover demands satisfaction. Leone's carefully maintained indifference crumbles when he's forced to confront the man in a duel. Pirandello's mordant wit cuts through the veneer of aristocratic propriety, exposing the absurdity and hypocrisy lurking beneath polite society. The film balances dark comedy with genuine tension as personal desires clash against rigid social codes. What begins as a drawing-room scandal escalates into a test of honor, pride, and the fragile conventions that hold the upper crust together.
