Salute is a documentary that examines the 1968 Mexico City Olympics medal ceremony where sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their fists in a black power salute, a pivotal moment in the civil rights movement. The film shifts focus to Peter Norman, the white Australian runner who finished second and stood alongside them on the podium. While Smith and Carlos's protest became legendary, Norman's role in that historic gesture and the personal cost he paid remained largely forgotten. The documentary traces how all three athletes faced severe consequences for their actions, revealing a lesser-known chapter of Olympic history and the price of solidarity in the fight for racial justice.
