For the Motherland(1982)
For the Motherland is a martial arts film set during Japanese occupation of Korea. After a brutal attack by a Japanese officer leaves him maimed, young Eung-beom trains under a master to develop a devastating new fighting technique. Years later, he returns to his homeland seeking vengeance against the man who destroyed his family and to strike a blow for Korean independence. His quest for justice intersects with Kyung-ae, a Korean woman caught in the enemy's employ, who becomes an unexpected ally. As Eung-beom systematically confronts his father's killers, he must navigate betrayal, danger, and moral complexity. The film blends historical drama with intense action sequences, exploring themes of sacrifice, redemption, and the personal cost of resistance against colonial oppression.
