Stronghold is a Belgian crime thriller that opens with a violent casino heist in Knokke. When their getaway car breaks down in the foggy Flemish countryside, two wounded criminals force their way into a remote farmhouse and take the family living there hostage. As one criminal dies from his injuries, the surviving psychopath Jim is left alone with his captives, subjecting them to a brutal psychological game of manipulation and terror. He plays family members against each other while a local police chief conducts a fumbling investigation. Tension escalates relentlessly as the father attempts to fight back, building toward a bloody, explosive confrontation where the remaining survivors must do whatever it takes to escape Jim's violence. The film is a taut study in desperation and cruelty set against the bleak Belgian landscape.
