The Groom(2016)

The Groom is a romantic comedy following Helmut, a German who arrives in Russia on May 9th to marry Alena, a Russian woman he met in Berlin. When the newlyweds travel to her village to meet her family, complications arise: Alena's ex-husband Tolya suddenly appears, determined to win her back. What begins as a love triangle spirals into chaos as the entire village gets drawn into the drama. Tolya and Helmut's rivalry pulls in Alena's relatives, local friends, an eccentric businessman who's recently bought property nearby, a wandering former tank soldier, and even a kite—all of whom somehow become entangled in the unfolding romantic mess. The film balances heartfelt moments with absurdist humor as these unlikely characters collide in the small Russian community.
