Dr. Li and the Mummy(1940)
Dr. Li and the Mummy is a silent film that blends mystery and the supernatural. When Miss Tang encounters a vampire in a hotel garden at night, Mr. Li sets out to determine whether the creature is real or merely a product of imagination. His investigation leads him to uncover a troubling connection: the hotel sits atop the grounds of a former gold mine, which may hold the key to the haunting. The film is notable as a pioneering work in cinema, believed to be the first to feature the jiangshi, the legendary hopping vampire of Chinese folklore. Despite its historical significance, Dr. Li and the Mummy remains largely inaccessible, with no theatrical re-releases or home video editions released since its original run.
