Een Engel Van Een Man is a Belgian drama following Prosper De Leeuw, a respectable grocer and devoted choir member in the town of Lier. When his choir "Het Ruisende riet" wins first prize in Antwerp, Prosper celebrates with his fellow singers—until a moment of carelessness destroys a valuable vase. Cast out penniless and forced to return home in shame, he falls gravely ill with pneumonia. As Prosper lies dying, the entire town reels from the sudden reversal of fortune for one of Lier's most upstanding citizens.
