The Peking Man(1974)
The Peking Man is a historical drama set in 1929 that centers on the discovery of an ancient human skull in China. When Japanese authorities learn of the find, they fear it threatens the mythological foundations of their emperor and national identity. Determined to suppress the evidence, they dispatch a military unit to China with orders to destroy the specimen. The Chinese scientists and officials who possess the skull refuse to surrender it, setting off a tense conflict between the two nations. The film explores themes of scientific discovery, national pride, and the lengths governments will go to protect their ideological narratives. Caught between imperial ambitions and the pursuit of knowledge, both sides prepare for confrontation over a piece of human history.
