A Hero of Our Times(1955)

A Hero of Our Times follows Alberto Menichetti, a timid and self-absorbed man living with his aunt and housekeeper Clotilde while working for widow Mrs. De Ritis, whose husband died in a hunting accident. Though Mrs. De Ritis harbors feelings for him, Alberto is fixated on Marcella, a younger woman he plans to pursue once she comes of age. His cowardice and selfishness repeatedly land him in trouble, driving the narrative as his schemes and moral compromises spiral. This Italian comedy-drama examines ambition and desire through the eyes of a fundamentally flawed protagonist whose inability to act with integrity becomes his undoing.
