Listen from the Nay: Separations(2008)
Listen from the Nay: Separations is a historical drama set in Ottoman Istanbul on the eve of the 1798 French-Ottoman war. A young Mevlevi dervish documents the unfolding events at Sahilsaray, the seaside palace of Beyhan Sultan, sister to Sultan Selim III. There, former pasha Nuri Dede Efendi and French diplomats work quietly to prevent conflict, while the court physician Halil and Beyhan Sultan's assistant Gülnihal Kalfa develop an unexpected bond. The dervish's notebook becomes a vessel for both witnessed romance and spiritual wisdom drawn from Mevlana's teachings, blending intimate human connection with the larger political currents of a pivotal moment. The film explores themes of love, duty, and the search for peace amid historical upheaval.
