Royal Opera House: Tosca(2021)

Tosca is a Royal Opera House production of Puccini's masterpiece, set in Rome during 1800's political turmoil. When escaped republican Cesare Angelotti seeks shelter, painter Mario Cavaradossi agrees to hide him—a decision that draws the attention of Rome's ruthless Chief of Police, Baron Scarpia. Scarpia manipulates the famous opera singer Floria Tosca, Cavaradossi's lover, by falsely claiming her beloved has betrayed Angelotti. As Scarpia's trap tightens, he arrests Cavaradossi and tortures him to extract information about Angelotti's whereabouts. Desperate and devastated, Tosca faces an impossible choice: surrender herself to the man she despises or watch the man she loves face execution. This operatic tragedy explores passion, power, and the devastating cost of political oppression through soaring music and intense human drama.
