Gérard Gérard is a French comedy about mistaken identity and desire. Abel, a ghostwriter, has just completed Charlotte's academic thesis when she becomes convinced he is Gérard Gérard, a prolific author of erotic novels. Rather than correct her, Abel exploits the misunderstanding to pursue a romantic connection with her. The film plays with the tension between deception and attraction as Abel navigates the consequences of his fabrication. What begins as a simple case of confusion spirals into complications neither character anticipated. The story explores how easily we project fantasies onto others and the risks of building attraction on false pretenses.
