Kundun is a biographical drama following the life of the 14th Dalai Lama from his childhood recognition as a reincarnated spiritual leader through his escape into exile. When communist China invades Tibet in the 1950s, the young religious leader faces an impossible choice between his people and his survival. Forced to flee his homeland, he embarks on a harrowing journey across the Himalayas to India, eventually settling in Dharamsala. The film captures the spiritual and political dimensions of his struggle, portraying both the serene monasteries of Tibet and the brutal occupation that transforms a peaceful nation. Kundun—meaning "The Presence" in Tibetan—explores themes of faith, resistance, and the personal cost of maintaining one's principles under authoritarian oppression.
