Cassandra(2013)
Cassandra is a documentary film that follows a literature graduate as she travels through Paraguay's remote Chaco region to document indigenous communities and their languages. Tasked with chronicling a new communication project, Cassandra encounters a world that resists easy description—one shaped by native cosmologies, untranslatable tongues, and economic marginalization. As she attempts to capture and convey the realities of Chaco life, the boundary between observer and observed blurs. Her outsider perspective gradually merges with the worldview of the indigenous inhabitants, transforming her from chronicler into participant. The film explores whether words, photographs, and speeches can truly communicate complex human realities, or whether some truths remain fundamentally unknowable to those who arrive as strangers.
