Chasing Dora(2006)
Chasing Dora is a documentary film following three California surfers as they attempt to fulfill a radical challenge issued by Miki Dora, surfing's most celebrated and contradictory figure. Dora, who died in 2002, was a legendary maverick who publicly rejected surfing's commercialization while privately endorsing bestselling boards. He condemned competition yet entered contests and promoted others. The surfers take on Dora's ultimate test: riding the longest wave on a handmade wooden board using only pre-industrial materials—no plastic, no neoprene, no leashes. The film explores Dora's complex legacy as a cultural icon who built an almost mythic persona through sheer style and conviction, examining what it means to truly master the sport on his uncompromising terms.
