Meteor is a disaster film about humanity's race against extinction. When a comet collision sends an eight-kilometer asteroid fragment called Orpheus hurtling toward Earth, NASA realizes conventional defenses won't work. The agency's secret nuclear satellite Hercules lacks sufficient firepower to stop the impact. Facing global annihilation, American officials must negotiate with the Soviet Union, which has developed its own illegal weapons satellite. The two superpowers must overcome Cold War tensions and mutual distrust to combine their arsenals in a desperate bid to save civilization. The film explores whether old enemies can unite when the stakes are survival itself.
