A human story

Refugee is a drama following an unnamed Indian Muslim who guides illegal refugees across the border between India and Pakistan through the Great Rann of Kutch, a vast salt desert. Inspired by Keki N. Daruwalla's short story "Love Across the Salt Desert," the film explores themes of compassion and survival amid political division. The protagonist risks everything to help people fleeing violence and persecution, navigating treacherous terrain and the constant threat of capture. As borders harden and tensions escalate, his moral conviction is tested against the harsh realities of displacement and loss. Refugee examines the human cost of partition and the bonds that transcend national boundaries, told through the eyes of someone caught between duty to his community and the call to help the vulnerable.
