Victoria Wood(1989)

Victoria Wood is a 1989 British sitcom series of six standalone episodes written by and starring Victoria Wood. Two years after the success of Victoria Wood As Seen on TV, Wood stepped away from sketch comedy to explore a new format. She plays a fictionalized version of herself in each episode, a character who occasionally breaks the fourth wall to address the audience directly. The series finds Wood experimenting with sitcom writing as a compromise between her sketch roots and her ambitions as a playwright. Each episode features Wood alongside carefully cast supporting actresses including Julie Walters and Una Stubbs. Though Wood found the writing demanding, the results showcase her sharp eye for human quirks and her gift for creating distinctively eccentric characters.
