Convoy(1965)

Convoy is a 13-episode World War II drama that aired on NBC during the 1965–1966 season. The series follows Commander Dan Talbot of the US Navy destroyer escort DD181 and civilian merchant Captain Ben Foster as they navigate the perilous Battle of the Atlantic, protecting vital cargo ships transporting food, supplies, and war materials across the ocean. John Gavin stars as Talbot, with John Larch as Foster, supported by Linden Chiles and James T. Callahan. The ensemble cast includes guest appearances from Dennis Hopper, Jack Palance, James Doohan, and Leslie Nielsen. Shot in black and white due to reliance on stock footage, Convoy became one of NBC's final monochrome productions. The format proved controversial—several NBC affiliates refused to broadcast it, contributing to consistently low Nielsen ratings. The series premiered September 17, 1965, and concluded December 10 of that year.
