Flash Gordon(1979)

Flash Gordon is an animated series produced by Filmation in 1979, created as a response to Star Wars' massive popularity. The show faithfully adapts the classic comic strip, following Flash and his companions—including his girlfriend Dale Arden and scientist Hans Zarkov—as they travel to the planet Mongo. There they face Ming the Merciless, his daughter Princess Aura, and an army of Metal Men. To survive, Flash and his allies forge partnerships with King Thun of the Lion People, Prince Barin of Arboria, and King Vultan of the Hawkmen. Originally developed as a made-for-television film, NBC expanded it into a full series. When the show was cancelled after two seasons, the original footage was reassembled with its soundtrack—including Ted Cassidy's final performance—and broadcast as the TV movie Flash Gordon: The Greatest Adventure of All in 1982. The series remains one of Filmation's most acclaimed efforts and one of the most faithful adaptations of the source material.
