Germinal is a French historical drama that follows Étienne Lantier, a young man who arrives at the Montsou coal mines seeking work. There he befriends the Maheu family and develops feelings for Catherine, their daughter. As Étienne becomes entrenched in the harsh realities of mining life, he witnesses the brutal conditions and exploitation faced by workers. His presence catalyzes growing unrest among the miners, who begin organizing against their oppressive employers. The series explores themes of class struggle, social injustice, and personal ambition set against the backdrop of 19th-century industrial France. Adapted from Émile Zola's seminal novel, Germinal captures the tension between individual desire and collective action, as Étienne must choose between love and his commitment to the workers' cause.
