Afterworld(2007)
Afterworld is a computer-animated science fiction series that reimagines the future through a Western lens. Created by writer Brent V. Friedman and filmmaker Michael DeCourcey, the show builds its narrative around a naturalistic, atypical sci-fi world modeled on classic frontier storytelling. The series premiered on YouTube and Bud.tv in February 2007, then found its audience when it launched on MySpace later that year, sparking a devoted fanbase. Afterworld subsequently expanded to multiple platforms—the Sci Fi Channel in Australia, mobile podcasts, and the streaming service Crackle—before Sony Pictures Television International packaged it as 13 half-hour episodes for traditional broadcasters. The blend of futuristic concepts and Western aesthetics creates a distinctive backdrop for the unfolding drama.
