Camera Three
Camera Three is an American variety series devoted to the arts. It ran on CBS from 1956 to 1979, showcasing drama, ballet, music, and fine art programming. In its final year, the show moved to PBS, where it continued until 1980. Among its most notable presentations was a 1964 condensation of Marc Blitzstein's leftist opera The Cradle Will Rock, a landmark moment that demonstrated television's growing willingness to air politically provocative work—something unthinkable during the McCarthy era. Camera Three became a pioneering platform for bringing high culture to American living rooms, offering viewers access to performances and artistic works that might otherwise have remained confined to concert halls and galleries.
