The Aeronauts(1967)

The Aeronauts is a French children's series following two fighter jet pilots through their aerial adventures. Originally titled Les chevaliers du ciel, it ran for three seasons between 1967 and 1970, based on the comic book series by Jean-Michel Charlier and Albert Uderzo. Though filmed in colour, the first season aired in black and white when French television hadn't yet adopted colour broadcasting. All three seasons were later released in full colour on a 6-DVD box set in the early 2000s, now highly sought after by collectors. The series was dubbed into English and broadcast on UK children's television in the early 1970s, where it became known as The Aeronauts. Its catchy theme tune was released as a single by Rick Jones in 1972. The show also reached international audiences through dubbed versions in other languages, including an Afrikaans adaptation titled Mirage, broadcast in South Africa in 1976.
