Iron Walnut: The Infernal Affairs(2018)

Iron Walnut: The Infernal Affairs is a Chinese historical drama set in late 1946, during the final stages of the Chinese Civil War. When Kuomintang forces encircle a People's Liberation Army unit in southern Henan, intelligence operative Deng Yuanda infiltrates enemy lines to gather false information and buy time for civilian evacuation. Working undercover, he engages in a battle of wits against Fei Siqing, the enemy intelligence director, while executing dangerous missions that test his growing skills. As Deng matures from inexperienced spy into a seasoned operative, his relationship with Fei Siqing transforms from adversarial to one built on mutual respect and understanding. The tension between duty and personal connection reaches its peak when a tragic sacrifice forces Deng to confront the cost of war, ultimately driving him toward a new mission guided by shared ideals.
