Saikano: The Last Love Song on This Little Planet is a manga and anime series that follows a high school romance caught in the shadow of war. Chise, a seemingly ordinary girl, harbors an extraordinary secret: she's a military android weapon. As her relationship with Shuji deepens, the line between her humanity and her purpose as a tool of destruction becomes increasingly blurred. The series blends tender romance with sci-fi tragedy, exploring what it means to love when your existence is fundamentally at odds with peace. Set in a city resembling Otaru, Japan, Saikano balances intimate character moments against a backdrop of global conflict. A live-action film adaptation starring Aki Maeda arrived in 2006. The anime has been licensed in English by Viz Media in North America and Manga Entertainment in the UK.
