Blott on the Landscape(1985)

Blott on the Landscape is a British comedy series that follows Sir Giles Lynchwood's scheme to route a new bypass through his wife's ancestral estate, Cleene Gorge, so he can claim government compensation while destroying her home. When Lady Maud discovers his plan and files for divorce, chaos erupts across the English countryside. The story weaves together the bumbling efforts of a Ministry official, Sir Giles' resourceful and unpredictable housekeeper Mrs Forthby, and Blott, the mysterious gardener who becomes an unlikely guardian of the estate. As these characters clash over the fate of the gorge, their eccentricities and schemes collide in a farcical battle against bureaucracy and greed. Starring George Cole, Geraldine James, David Suchet, Simon Cadell and Julia McKenzie, the series is a sharp satire of British class, ambition and rural life.
