The Islanders(1960)

The Islanders is an American adventure series that aired on ABC from 1960 to 1961, following Sandy Wade and Zack Malloy as they run a one-plane airline in the Spice Islands. The two co-owners of a Grumman Goose amphibious aircraft find themselves caught in danger during seemingly routine charter flights across the southeastern Pacific. Aided by the colorful Wilhelmina "Steamboat Willy" Vanderveer and Shipwreck Callighan, they navigate a series of escalating perils. Starring William Reynolds, James Philbrook, and Diane Brewster, the series blended adventure with comedy in the vein of Terry and the Pirates and Maverick. Though the concept started strong, Reynolds later reflected that the show lost its way, becoming less focused and ultimately unsuccessful. The series competed against major Sunday evening competition including The Jack Benny Program and Candid Camera.
