Ready Steady Go!(1963)
Ready Steady Go! was one of Britain's first rock and pop music television programmes, airing from August 1963 to December 1966. Created by Elkan Allan and produced by Vicki Wickham, the live show became a national fixture on ITV, showcasing emerging and established artists of the era. The programme reached peak viewership on 20 March 1964 when the Beatles performed and were interviewed, playing "It Won't Be Long," "You Can't Do That," and the then-current hit "Can't Buy Me Love." Ready Steady Go! pioneered the music television format that would later define MTV, establishing itself as essential viewing for fans of contemporary pop and rock. A short-lived American adaptation, RSG! USA!, aired in 1964 but was cancelled after six episodes due to trademark issues.
