Complications is a medical drama following John Ellis, a burnt-out suburban ER doctor whose life takes a dark turn when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a young boy's life but killing one of the attackers. When Ellis discovers the boy remains a target, he becomes obsessed with protecting him—a choice that pulls him deeper into criminal underworld and forces him to question everything he believes about medicine and morality. As Ellis crosses ethical lines to keep his young patient alive, his comfortable existence unravels, transforming him from healer into something far more complicated. The series explores how one moment of heroism can spiral into a dangerous descent, blurring the line between saving lives and destroying them.
