Methanol(2018)

Methanol is a Czech documentary series examining a real public health crisis that gripped the nation in summer 2012. A lethal batch of counterfeit alcohol—a mixture of ethanol and toxic methanol—killed at least 38 people and poisoned over 80 others within weeks. The contaminated spirits appeared everywhere: tobacconist shops, gift bags, wedding celebrations. One shot caused blindness; two could be fatal. The series traces how police, courts, journalists, and politicians converged on the case, uncovering a scandal that shocked the country and exposed vulnerabilities in alcohol regulation. Methanol reveals the human cost of the outbreak and asks a haunting question: could it happen again?
