Poor Nastya is a Russian telenovela that aired on STS from October 2003 to April 2004. Set in 19th-century imperial Russia, the series became an unexpected international phenomenon, broadcast across Ukraine, China, Israel, Serbia, Georgia, Greece, Bulgaria and over twenty other countries. With a production budget of $11.8 million, it remains the most expensive Russian television project ever made. The lavish period drama follows the trials of its titular character against a backdrop of aristocratic intrigue and romantic conflict. Though a sequel was planned, it never materialized.
