Trainer(1991)

Trainer is a British television series that aired on BBC between 1991 and 1992, following Mike Hardy, an aspiring horse trainer determined to establish his own stables in the competitive world of horse racing. Set in and around Compton near Newbury, the drama explores Hardy's ambitions alongside a cast of local characters including gambler John Grey and widow Rachel Ware. The series ran for two seasons—the first comprising 13 prime-time Sunday episodes on BBC1, before ratings of around 6 million led to a reduced second series of ten Wednesday evening instalments. Trainer marked producer Gerard Glaister's final television project, drawing inspiration from the horse-racing storyline of his earlier success Howards' Way. The theme song "More to Life" was performed by Cliff Richard, with music by Simon May and Mike Read.
