Free! is a sports anime series centered on Haruka Nanase, a gifted swimmer with a deep love for the water. Years after winning a youth tournament with childhood friends Makoto Tachibana, Nagisa Hazuki, and Rin Matsuoka, the group drifts apart. When Rin unexpectedly resurfaces in high school and challenges Haruka to a race, revealing his remarkable strength, Haruka is spurred into action. Determined not to accept defeat, he reunites Makoto and Nagisa, recruiting the talented but inexperienced Rei Ryugazaki to form the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club. Together, the four swimmers train hard, driven by friendship and the goal of facing Rin in competition once more.
