SD-Bögar(2023)

SD-Bögar is a documentary series examining the rise of homonationalism in Sweden and beyond. The country has long been celebrated as a gay-friendly nation, yet the Sweden Democrats—a nationalist party with Nazi roots and a history of anti-gay politics—has become the second-largest political force. The party now actively recruits within the LGBTQ community. A new generation of openly gay men have embraced conservative politics, rejecting traditional Pride activism while opposing immigration and drag education programs. Director Erik Galli follows Sweden Democrats voters, politicians, and columnists, alongside members of "Gays for Trump" in the United States, to understand this contradictory movement. The series explores how LGBTQ individuals have aligned themselves with nationalist and right-wing ideologies, revealing a complex and contentious shift in contemporary politics.
