The Sect(2019)

The Sect is a drama series following Nika, a devoted member of a secretive religious cult. When a team of deprogrammers—specialists trained to extract people from high-control groups—intervenes, they deploy morally ambiguous tactics to break her indoctrination. The series explores the psychological battle between Nika's deeply held beliefs and the deprogrammers' aggressive attempts at rehabilitation. As the conflict intensifies, the show examines whether coercive methods can truly free someone from cult influence, or if they simply replace one form of control with another. Tension mounts as Nika's loyalty is tested and the deprogrammers' own ethics come into question. The Sect balances intimate character study with broader questions about autonomy, belief, and the cost of salvation.
