Back from the Front is a 1943 Stooge comedy short that follows Moe, Larry, and Curly as they enlist in the Merchant Marines during World War II. After mistaking a torpedo for a beached whale and causing it to explode, the trio finds themselves adrift at sea. They eventually board the German warship SS Schicklgruber, where they encounter Lt. Dungen, a Nazi officer who fails to recognize them beneath their grown beards. The Stooges manage to overpower the German crew and toss them overboard, turning the ship to their advantage. Packed with slapstick humor and wartime hijinks, the short captures the trio's signature physical comedy while playing into the patriotic spirit of the era.
