La Gemma di Sant'Eremo is a rare silent film fragment, surviving as a 35-meter reel from a heavily degraded print. The film features Italian diva Pina Menichelli in a dual role: first as a joyful bride, then as a solitary, melancholic woman. Film historians have identified this piece as a reshaped version of an earlier work titled La colpa, which Menichelli performed in two years prior but which was never released due to censorship restrictions. Though incomplete, the surviving footage offers a glimpse into early Italian cinema and the career of one of the era's most celebrated actresses, preserving a fragment of film history that was nearly lost to time and decay.
