Composed of over 98% water with no brain, skeleton, or shell, jellyfish have begun blooming with alarming frequency and scale—devastating fishing industries, tourism, and coastal communities. Once confined to specific regions, jellyfish populations now thrive in the Black Sea, off Namibia, in the Sea of Japan, and throughout the Baltic, replacing fish stocks entirely. Scientists investigate how these gelatinous animals, which survived the extinction of dinosaurs, are reclaiming their ancient dominance.
