Iolanta(1963)

Iolanta is a romantic opera about a princess of Provence who has been blind since birth. Unaware of her condition thanks to her father's protection, she is betrothed to Robert, Duke of Burgundy. When Robert arrives at court with his friend Godfrey of Vaudemont, he seeks to break the engagement, having fallen in love with another woman. Godfrey, however, falls for the sleeping Iolanta and asks King René for her hand in marriage. Learning of Robert's affection elsewhere, the king consents to the new union. A Moorish physician works to restore Iolanta's sight before the wedding. His efforts succeed, and the newly sighted bride joyfully marries Godfrey, finding love and light together.
