Islands(1987)

Islands is a documentary following artist Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude as they pursue three ambitious environmental art projects. The couple attempts to wrap Paris's historic Pont Neuf bridge, encase Berlin's Reichstag in fabric, and encircle eleven man-made islands in Florida with vast sheets of pink plastic. Only the Florida project receives approval, becoming the film's primary focus as the Maysles capture the logistical challenges, creative vision, and determination required to realize such monumental public art. The documentary reveals the couple's unwavering commitment to transforming landscapes through temporary, large-scale installations that challenge conventional notions of beauty and permanence.
