Horror Vacui(1984)

Horror Vacui is a neo-expressionist satire on cult manipulation and ideology. Set in Berlin, the film follows Frankie and Hannes, a young gay couple whose stable life—one studying art, the other medicine—unravels when Frankie attends a lecture and becomes entangled with Optimal Optimism, a self-help group masking a sinister cult. Led by Madame C, a former Nazi, the group turns violent when members discover Frankie's sexuality, subjecting him to brutal assault. Hannes must navigate the cult's grip to save him. The film uses stark visual language to expose how ideology preys on vulnerability and belonging, examining the dangerous appeal of authoritarian movements across history.
