Attila is a three-act opera by Giuseppe Verdi, premiered in Venice in 1846. Set in 5th-century Aquileia, the drama centers on Odabella, whose family was destroyed when Attila sacked her city. Determined to avenge them, she infiltrates the Hun leader's camp, only to find herself drawn into a complex web of power and desire. When Roman general Ezio arrives with an offer to divide the empire, Attila's refusal to compromise sets in motion a tragic collision between personal vengeance and political ambition. Verdi's libretto, adapted from Zacharias Werner's tragedy, balances intimate character conflict with grand historical stakes.
