Tora-san of Goto is a documentary that spans 22 years following a nine-member family in Japan's Goto Islands as they produce udon noodles and natural salt. Led by Toru Inuzuka, known locally as "Tora-san," the family operates their small business on an island facing depopulation. Every morning at 5 a.m., the seven children wake to help with production before heading to school, earning pocket money recorded on timecards. The film captures their evolution from childhood through adulthood—marriages, births, returns home, and departures—weaving together intimate moments of family life with the quiet rhythms of traditional craft work. Over two decades, Tora-san of Goto becomes a portrait of resilience, generational bonds, and the slow passage of time in rural Japan.
