My Architect: A Son's Journey(2003)
A man. His buildings. His secret lives.
My Architect: A Son's Journey is a documentary following Nathaniel Kahn's quest to understand his father, the legendary architect Louis Kahn, whom he barely knew. Kahn designed iconic structures including the Salk Institute and the Bangladeshi Capitol Building, yet maintained a secret life outside his marriage, fathering Nathaniel with another woman. When Kahn died in a Penn Station bathroom, Nathaniel was only eleven. Decades later, the filmmaker retraces his father's footsteps across the globe, visiting his greatest works and speaking with colleagues, friends, and family members. Through this intimate journey, Nathaniel pieces together the man behind the masterpieces—a brilliant but deeply flawed figure who compartmentalized his personal and professional worlds. The film explores themes of ambition, legacy, absence, and the complicated love between father and son.
